Our Restaurant

The restaurant is on the opposite side of the nuptial ceremony hall. By just a short walk through the charming square, the happy couple and the wedding party can reach us. In Obuda, the historical downtown is an ideal surrounding for wedding pictures. The terrace can provide a great place for greetings, and the restaurant or the banquet-hall are excellent for receiving guests and for celebrating. Our basic concept recalls traditional, Hungarian flavours and our grandmother’s Sunday meals. Out specialties include the finest fish dishes: catfish stew with cottage eve cheese noodles, the special fish-soup Sipos style, whole baked bass and so on. Our guests can select from the best of Hungarian wines, to go with our dishes. Sándor Zwack Nemes Pálinka, Hírös Kecskeméti Pálinka, the Rézangyal pálinka, and the Zsindelyes Pálinkafőzde (a snaps brewery) offers a variety of over 60 different types of palinka, as an aperitif or a digestive. The charming garden, the internal garden, the different parlors, the cellar can cater to a larger event, or several smaller, simultaneous gathering. The prominent wall, the candlelight, the Hungarian cuisine and –what is has became a rather unique feature – gypsy music, all make Halaszkert the perfect event location. We, along our chefs are constantly thriving to provide our best by using the finest and freshest ingredients and by immaculate service. We all do that, so our guest can leave content and we can have them again.


The neighbourhood has free parking, also there is the new Florian parking building about a minute away (280 Ft/hour)

Our charming restaurant’s so-called “Nice Room” is specifically recommended for intimate family gatherings For weddings and larger families we recommend the Brown-parlor.

Our restaurant gladly welcomes tourists and groups on city-breaks. In our immediate neighbourhood, the Fo square and the surrounding streets still guard the sense of the 19th century Obuda. Situated, right across from our entrance, the baroque Zichy-castle, built in the 18th century, home of several museums. Located here are the Museum of Obuda, Kassak Museum and the Vasarely Museum. By public transport, by car or by bus the ancient roman ruins of Aquincum can be reached in about 15-20 minutes.

Our restaurant is excellent for standing receptions (up to 900 pers), or seating events (up to 500 pers). Projecting equipment, screens and sound system is available on site.

Even in the previous century, Obuda was known as the Obuda as the “pantry of the capital". Our dishes reflect that notion, mixing the traditions of Obuda with delicacies of the last and current centuries of Hungary. I would like to use this opportunity to list some, which are very rare in the capital, or can only be found in Uj Sipos Halaszkert.

  • Uj Sipos Fish soup (a mixture of pike-perch, carp and sheat fish insides). An original recipe of Obuda.
  • Fish platter for two, Sipos style served with a wariety of sides and tartar sauce
  • Fish perks Our whole baked fish selection is also quite unique.

The Uj Sopos, as indicated by its name, “Halaszkert”, and by the turn of the century interior, that it is one of Obuda’s, close to extinction type, bourgeois restaurant, specializing in fish dishes. The above is typically representing the 19th and 20th century’s Hungarian cuisine, while the creation and the serving is following the gastronomical trends of the 21st century Budapest.

We are thriving to use only the finest (selected and checked by ourselves) Hungarian ingredients. Farmers from Budapest and around provide these. We would like to mention some of these farmers: No Bull Co, supplier of fresh meat, Szabadi-Szabadi for pickles, Harcsa-file for fish and Andre Cheese Manufacturer for cheeses. The 19th century is not only present in the building, the interior and the dishes but the waiters are also serving with the skill and elegance of their colleges from Gyula Krudy’s era.

Our wish is, that the everyday citizen would feel like a lord, while not putting pressure on their wallet. We sincerely hope, that are efforts and work can make the immediate neighbourhood, the Fo square, homely and busy again, and thus regaining its pivotal situation in Budapest’s gastronomical life.

Naturally we do not charge for room reservations.
